What is Bigender?

The notion that you can only be one gender isn’t true. The truth is, there are many gender identities and someone can be more than one gender. Some people can be bigender, pangender, or genderfluid. These all refer to people that can be more than one gender at the same time, or different times.
Bigender is a term that refers to someone who is two genders. Bigender people can be feminine and masculine at the same time or at different times. They can also be agender and trans feminine, or be genderqueer and femme.
Always keep in mind that it’s important to ask someone what pronouns they use if you don’t know because bigender people do not have set pronouns. Remember also that bigender is a gender identity and not sexual orientation. It has nothing to do with romantic attraction to other people or your sexual orientation,

Is it the same as genderfluid, pangender, and bisexual?

As we previously explained, a bigender person is one who has two genders. On the other hand, a genderfluid person may experience multiple genders of the spectrum. Someone who is genderfluid may experience more genders than someone who is bigender. Another term that is often confused with bigender is pangender.
Someone that is pangender feels comfortable identifying with various kinds of labels with regards to gender. A pangender person may be a cumulation of every gender the person knows. For instance, they can be non-binary, agender, or transgender. The might even be more genders than the three we’ve mentioned at the same time.
When it comes to the difference between bisexuality and bigender, you should know that one is a gender identity and the other is a sexual orientation. Bigender is a gender identity and bisexuality is a sexual orientation. This simply means that they aren’t on the same spectrum. Bisexual people are attracted to more than one gender and bigender means that someone is two genders. However, you can be bisexual and bigender at the same time.

What bigender can look like

Always remember that gender is a social construct and there’s no one way for someone to express that they’re bigender. But, a bigender individual might not have any problems with expressing masculine or feminine clothing or attitudes. Others may choose to be neutral when it comes to fashion sense or how they express themselves.
As we’ve mentioned earlier bigender expression is an individual thing, and because it is unique, it’s always important to validate someone or acknowledge when they tell you who they are. Be respectful when someone comes out to you as bigender and respect them even when they talk to you about their struggles.
If someone isn’t comfortable coming out to you, remember that you cannot force them to do it. You cannot also force them to educate the people around them about their gender. There’s no test anyone can take to confirm whether or not you or someone else is bigender. But, if you suspect that you are, there are plenty of resources online that can give you a few pointers.
